Global Traveller Introduces £500 Emergency Travel Advance for Members

A cancelled journey, a stolen wallet or a lost passport can leave a traveller facing an immediate problem: how to pay for the essential next step when their usual access to money has been disrupted.

Global Traveller is introducing an Emergency Travel Advance of up to £500 to help eligible members in these situations. The facility can support essential travel, temporary emergency accommodation, costs associated with lost travel documents and other approved immediate travel disruption requirements. Approved costs are paid directly to the relevant vendor or service provider.

Members receive practical assistance with the situation they are facing, alongside a way to fund an essential service when they cannot reasonably access their own money.

When a travel problem becomes an immediate payment problem

Even a well prepared traveller can lose access to the resources they normally rely on. A stolen bag may contain a phone, bank cards and passport. A blocked card can prevent payment for essential transport. An unexpected overnight delay may leave someone needing somewhere safe to stay while they work out what happens next. In these circumstances, knowing which service to use is only part of the solution. The traveller may also need help communicating with the provider, confirming arrangements and ensuring payment can be made.

The Emergency Travel Advance brings those steps together. It allows our assistance team to consider an urgent funding need as part of the wider response, rather than leaving the member to solve the payment problem alone.

What the £500 Emergency Travel Advance can support

The facility is intended for essential expenses arising from a genuine travel-related emergency or immediate disruption, where the member cannot reasonably access their own funds. For example, a traveller whose wallet has been stolen may need essential ground transport while arranging replacement payment methods. Someone stranded following disruption may need temporary accommodation. A member who has lost their passport may face urgent costs connected with obtaining replacement or emergency travel documentation.

Each situation is assessed individually. Our team considers what has happened, what the member needs immediately and whether a proposed payment is appropriate under the facility terms. The amount approved reflects that need, up to the £500 limit. The purpose is to help a traveller take an essential next step, with the support of people who understand the circumstances.

Direct payment to the service provider

Global Traveller pays approved expenses directly to the vendor or service provider. The Emergency Travel Advance is not a cash advance, money is not handed to the member, transferred to their personal bank account or provided as a balance to spend freely.

If emergency accommodation is approved, payment is arranged with the accommodation provider. If essential transport is approved, payment is made to the relevant operator. Other approved costs follow the same principle, subject to the provider being able to accept the payment arrangement. This keeps the facility connected to the specific problem being managed. The member understands what has been approved, and our team can coordinate the service and its payment together.

How members request assistance

Members should contact Global Traveller through the app or the assistance channels provided with their membership and explain what has happened. Useful information includes the immediate difficulty, the service required and why they cannot currently access their own funds. Our assistance team assesses the circumstances, discusses the available options and determines whether an Emergency Travel Advance can be approved. Where approved, the team coordinates direct payment for the agreed service.

The facility is discretionary and subject to verification, operational availability. Any advance it not an insurance benefit or a grant.

Part of a wider travel assistance membership

The advance sits within Global Traveller’s broader approach to supporting members before and during international travel. Our role is to help people understand a problem, decide what to do next and access appropriate assistance when circumstances require it.

An urgent payment issue may be one part of a more complicated incident. Losing a passport can affect onward travel. Theft may leave someone unable to communicate. Transport disruption can create concerns about where to wait or how to continue safely. Having one assistance team involved helps the member address these connected issues.

Global Traveller is owned and operated by Stratum Global Risk. Members can explore our global travel assistance membership to understand how human support, travel information and practical coordination work together.

Assistance alongside appropriate travel insurance

Travel insurance remains important. Depending on the policy and circumstances, it may provide financial protection and its own assistance services. Global Traveller can support members alongside those arrangements, including helping coordinate communication where appropriate.

The Emergency Travel Advance addresses an immediate funding difficulty. Whether an expense is covered by insurance is a separate question governed by the member’s policy, and approval of an advance does not establish insurance cover. For members facing an urgent travel problem, the first step is to contact our team. We can assess the situation, help identify the next steps and consider whether the facility can support an essential expense.

Emergency Travel Advances are subject to eligibility, assessment, approval, verification, operational availability and agreed repayment arrangements. The maximum advance is £500. Approved funds are paid directly to service providers.
