Turkey has substantial private healthcare capability, particularly in major cities and established tourist centres. However, the availability and standard of facilities can vary between locations. This becomes particularly relevant when travellers are moving away from Istanbul, Ankara and other major urban centres, or travelling in mountainous and remote areas.

Global Traveller can help members identify appropriate medical care, coordinate appointments or admissions, arrange ambulance or medical transportation and support communication with medical providers. Where a traveller requires specialist treatment or cannot safely continue their journey, our Operations Centre can coordinate medical evacuation or repatriation through appropriate providers.

Travellers should also be aware that Turkey does not have a reciprocal healthcare arrangement with the UK, and FCDO advises visitors to have appropriate insurance for local treatment and unexpected medical evacuation. (GOV.UK)

Turkey experiences regular earthquakes and tremors, with the potential for significant disruption to infrastructure and transportation. The country also experiences seasonal wildfires, particularly during the warmer months, while heavy rainfall can result in flooding and landslides that affect roads and bridges. These events can create rapidly changing travel conditions.

Where an incident requires evacuation or relocation, appropriate providers can be activated through our international network.

Medical Evacuation & Emergency Support

When an incident requires more than local assistance, Global Traveller coordinates medical transportation, evacuation, repatriation and onward movement through appropriate providers. Our Operations Centre assesses the circumstances and coordinates communication between the traveller, medical facilities, transportation providers and other relevant parties.

This may involve arranging ground transportation to an appropriate medical facility, coordinating specialist aviation or supporting onward movement when a traveller cannot continue their original journey. For travellers operating in remote areas or locations affected by significant disruption, early coordination can be particularly important. Third-party costs for medical treatment, transportation or evacuation are separate from Global Traveller membership unless otherwise agreed.
