Medical capability varies significantly across Mexico. Major cities and established tourist destinations have access to private hospitals, clinics and specialist services, while healthcare and emergency response can be more limited outside state capitals and larger urban areas. Global Traveller can help members identify appropriate medical providers, coordinate appointments and admissions and arrange medical transportation where required.

For travellers outside major centres, the Operations Centre can help assess available treatment options and determine whether movement to another facility may be appropriate. Where specialist treatment is not available locally, medical evacuation or repatriation can be coordinated through appropriate providers.

Travel Security & Regional Awareness

Security conditions vary considerably between Mexican states and even between individual cities and travel corridors. Major tourist destinations and commercial centres have different considerations from areas affected by organised crime, kidnapping and higher levels of violent crime. Current official guidance identifies a number of specific regions subject to heightened travel restrictions. (GOV.UK)

Mexico City and other major urban areas can also present risks including street crime, express kidnapping and disruption associated with demonstrations. For travellers, the difference between destination and route can therefore be important. A journey that is straightforward at its destination may involve different considerations during road movements between locations. Global Traveller provides location-relevant travel intelligence and alerts, alongside human assistance when circumstances directly affect a traveller.

Mexico also experiences earthquakes and volcanic activity. Volcanic ash from active volcanoes has previously disrupted flights into Mexico City, while earthquakes occur regularly in parts of the country. Medical Evacuation & Repatriation

Where appropriate treatment is unavailable locally, Global Traveller can coordinate medical transportation, evacuation or repatriation through specialist providers. This can be particularly relevant for travellers outside major urban centres, where emergency medical services, ambulances and specialist facilities may be more limited.

Depending on the circumstances, arrangements may involve road ambulance, air ambulance, transfer to a specialist facility or repatriation to the traveller’s home country. Third-party medical, transportation and evacuation costs are separate from Global Traveller membership unless otherwise agreed.
