TRAVEL ASSISTANCE IN LEBANON
Beirut is the country’s principal commercial and international centre, with major business, diplomatic, medical and hospitality infrastructure. Travel beyond Beirut can involve very different operating conditions. Business and project movements may extend into Mount Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, Tripoli, Akkar, the south, Nabatiyeh and areas close to the Syrian border.
Official travel advice for Lebanon is highly location-specific, with advice against all travel to a number of areas, including South and Nabatiyeh Governorates, parts of Beirut’s southern suburbs, parts of the Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel, areas of Akkar and all Palestinian refugee camps. Many advise against all but essential travel to specified areas of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli. Global Traveller provides real-time travel intelligence, location relevant alerts and access to 24/7 human travel assistance throughout the journey.

Medical Assistance
Lebanon has established private healthcare capability, particularly in Beirut, but the wider healthcare environment has been affected by economic pressures, fuel shortages and infrastructure challenges. The availability and quality of medical treatment have been affected by the economic crisis, although private healthcare in Beirut has stabilised, medical care can be expensive and hospitals may require significant cash deposits before treatment.
Medical supplies can also occasionally be difficult to obtain. Global Traveller helps members identify appropriate medical facilities, coordinate appointments or admissions and arrange ground medical transportation where required. Where specialist treatment is unavailable locally, our Operations Centre can coordinate medical evacuation or repatriation through appropriate specialist providers.
Travel Security & Regional Awareness
Lebanon requires careful consideration of location, route and current regional developments. Security conditions can deteriorate quickly, particularly in areas affected by conflict, political tensions or armed activity. Risks include terrorism, kidnapping, armed violence, airstrikes, protests and roadblocks. The situation is particularly sensitive in southern Lebanon, the southern suburbs of Beirut, parts of the Bekaa Valley and areas close to the Syrian border.
Road movements also require careful planning. The FCDO notes that major roads can be blocked at short notice, including routes to and from Beirut airport. It also advises against using shared or unofficial taxis and highlights poor driving standards and the presence of checkpoints. (GOV.UK). Global Traveller provides location-relevant travel intelligence and human assistance when circumstances change. For complex journeys, appropriate transportation, local operational support and specialist resources can be coordinated through the wider network.
Executive & Business Travel
Lebanon remains an important market for international businesses, financial services, professional services, technology, telecommunications, development organisations, NGOs, hospitality and regional commercial activity. Beirut is the principal business and diplomatic centre, while commercial and project activity can extend into Mount Lebanon, the Bekaa, Tripoli, the north and other parts of the country. Business travel can therefore involve a combination of airport transfers, offices, hotels, client meetings, government facilities, project locations and regional movements.
For executives and international teams, the journey itself can be as important as the destination. Transportation, route planning, medical access and the ability to respond quickly when circumstances change can all form part of an effective corporate travel programme. Global Traveller provides executives and business travellers with 24/7 access to assistance throughout their journey. This can include transportation coordination, medical assistance, local operational support and assistance when circumstances affect planned movements.
For organisations with more complex travel requirements, Stratum Global Risk provides dedicated travel risk management and operational support in Lebanon and across the wider Middle East. Its regional capability can support organisations with traveller risk management, journey management, secure transportation, medical coordination and contingency planning. For organisations requiring a more comprehensive corporate travel risk management capability, see Lebanon Travel Risk Management & Assistance from Stratum Global Risk.
Complex & Regional Travel
For many travellers in Lebanon, the most important consideration is not simply where they are going but how they are moving between locations. A journey from Beirut airport to a central Beirut hotel is very different from a road movement towards the Bekaa Valley, northern Lebanon, the south or areas close to the Syrian border.
Global Traveller can support members throughout these different stages of a journey. Where road travel is required, appropriate transportation and local resources can be coordinated. Where roads are blocked or conditions change, the Operations Centre can help assess alternative routes and arrangements. This can be particularly valuable for executives, project personnel and international teams whose travel extends beyond Beirut.
Emergency Travel & Disruption
Lebanon’s security environment and infrastructure constraints mean that travel disruption can occur with limited warning. Airstrikes, roadblocks, demonstrations, civil disorder, border developments, flight disruption, power shortages or changes in regional security conditions can all affect planned movements.
Beirut airport is open and operational, however the security situation can change quickly and routes to the airport may be blocked at short notice. Global Traveller provides members with a single point of contact when this happens. Our Operations Centre can assess the circumstances and coordinate appropriate transportation, medical, security, aviation or local support. Where an incident requires a more substantial response, specialist resources can be activated through the wider Global Traveller network.
Medical Evacuation & Repatriation
Where appropriate specialist treatment is unavailable locally, Global Traveller can coordinate medical evacuation, repatriation or onward movement. This may involve ground transportation to an appropriate hospital in Beirut, movement from another part of Lebanon to a suitable medical facility, specialist aviation or international repatriation depending on the circumstances.
The response is coordinated according to the traveller’s medical needs, location and available treatment options. Third-party medical, transportation and evacuation costs are separate from Global Traveller membership unless otherwise agreed.
More Than an App
The Global Traveller app provides destination information, travel intelligence, alerts, itinerary features and direct access to assistance. For travellers moving between Beirut and other parts of Lebanon, location-relevant information can be particularly useful where conditions vary significantly between areas.
When an incident requires more than information, members can contact the 24/7 Operations Centre directly. The app keeps travellers informed and connected. The Operations Centre provides the human assistance behind the membership.
